During the current COVID-19 pandemic, we believe it is important to show solidarity with our health officials who are working to protect the lives of people in our community, city and country by limiting gatherings to less than five people.

Therefore, we have moved our worship service to an online format that will be available any time after 10:30am on May 3, 2020. Please join us online with your family to worship, listen to a biblically-based sermon and discuss together the provided questions at the end of the sermon. Also, please have some bread/crackers and small glasses of grape juice ready to serve your family for communion.

Discussion Questions

If you are gathered with your family, please discuss the following questions together. Otherwise if you are participating in this online service alone, please join our Zoom meeting at 12:00pm to discuss the questions with Pastor Bill and others from our church community.

  1. Share a time when you were tempted to lie or steal.
  2. Is there ever a time when it would be okay to lie or steal?
  3. In your own words explain the difference between the new covenant and the old covenant.
  4. Galatians 5:19-21 lists the acts of the sinful nature and concludes that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. When Jesus told the parable of the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25:31-46) the only difference we see between the sheep who go to eternal life, and the goats who go away to eternal punishment, is that the sheep fed, offered drink, were hospitable, clothed and looked after those in need while the goats did not. How do we reconcile these two passages that focus on deeds that translate to entrance (or not) into the kingdom, with all the passages that insist it is not through our righteous deeds that we enter into the kingdom, but rather through faith? ie. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8 & 9, cf Mark 16:16; Romans 10:9; John 3:15-18, 36; 5:24; 6:40; Acts 10:43; Acts 13:39).
  5. In light of salvation through faith in Christ’s atoning sacrifice, what does it mean to work out your own salvation (Phil. 2:13) and how do we making our calling and election sure (2 Peter 1:10)?
  6. Do you have any questions about this subject?
